Studio Description:

The Island Thyme English Morris Dancers have been sharing the ancient ritual folk dances of England with Victoria audiences since 1987. The women's side perform garland dances from the English northwest, and stick and handkerchief dances from the Cotswold region. The men's side do stick dances from the Welsh-English border region.

The group Kariatis was formed 26 years ago by Karia Leshke and performed at Millos (Greek) Restaurant every weekend for about 10 years. In July 2005, the group travelled to Bulgaria to sudy Bulgarian and Macedonian dance at the Balkanfolk camp.

ALMA DE ESPANA Flamenco Dance Company is the home of "Familia Flamenca" with flamenco dancer Veronica Maguire, flamenco guitarist Harry Owen, and son, guitarist, Gareth Owen. This professional group offers a variety of shows, from the small intimate group to a full company production of music, song and dance; with its mastery of polyrhythmic techniques, its charismatic style and undeniable artistry.

Classes Offered:

All classes, open to both men and women, from beginners to professional levels, focus on the study of all forms in flamenco, including footwork & palmas (with emphasis on the "compas" rhythms), cante, upper body style and choreography. Flamenco guitar lessons are also offered for those wanting to learn the accompaniment for cante and dance. Students are encouraged to perform in community events, as well as the yearly "Flamenco Student Showcase" in June.

Founded 35 years ago, the club does both recreational and performance dancing from a large repertoire of international dances.

Classes Offered:

Folkdance music from many nationals: Greek, Israeli, Balkan, British....

Age Groups:

All ages, but predominantly mature dancers.

Recitals:

Folkfest and Greekfest for performances. Wednesday and Friday evening at Willow's School for regulars.

Instructors:

We have a rotating group of instructors, and also invite outside performers to come in to present workshops.

Studio Description:

Beginner to pre-professional classes are offered in Jazz, Tap, Hip-Hop, R.A.D. and Open Ballet, Musical Theatre, Lyrical, Stretch & Strength, and pre-school programs. There are four performing companies that offer dancers the chance to excel quickly in technique, performance training and self-discipline, leading to more performing opportunities.

Studio Description:

The Sons of Norway "Leikarring" folk dance group invites those interested in learning, preserving and performing ethnic dances, towards promoting the Norwegian culture. We meet Tuesdays at Norway House, 1110 Hillside Avenue, from 7:30PM to 9:30PM. The dancers wear HARDANGER costumes during performance. The group formed in 1947, so in 2007 it will celebrate its 60th anniversary.

Classes Offered:

The dances represent couples village dances, old dances, song dances and figure dances, and are performed to recorded music. Various skill levels are represented, and the performance programs offer selections reflecting the individual's expertise.

Age Groups:

Young adult through seniors.

Recitals:

1994 Commonwealth Games Opening Performance; Folkfest since inception; Greater Victoria Performing Arts Festival since 1950's; in many communities throughout B.C.
