Employment Opportunity

The Victoria Dance Series seeks the services of a Director of Development (one year renewable contract position) to commence work in mid to late April 2006.

Reporting to the Executive Producer the Director of Development will:

Private Sector Sponsors

  • Develop Sponsor Materials including a benefits package commensurate with levels of giving

  • Research, develop relationships with and make approaches to potential private sector sponsors, accompanied by a Board Member and/or the Executive Producer

  • Manage Sponsor relations

Individual Gifts

  • Develop donor materials including a benefits package commensurate with levels of giving

  • Build on and Manage the existing annual Individual Donor campaign

  • Develop new strategies that encourage contributions from individuals including appropriate cultivation and recognition vehicles.

Special Events

  • Working with a committee of the Board of Directors, develop and manage pre- and post-show special events that acknowledge supporters and/or encourage new supporters

  • Develop one or two annual stand-alone donor recognition events

Contract Terms: April 2006 to March 30 2007, subject to renewal

The successful candidate will:

  • work from a home office;

  • hold a valid driver's license and have access to a vehicle;

  • manage a small budget to support the activity of the position, and:

  • have experience/knowledge of fundraising software.

Hours of work and payment schedule to be negotiated with the successful candidate.

The Society will provide a budget to cover costs associated with the design and print of sponsor and donor materials, and catering for special events. From time to time, dependent on budget, the Society may contribute to the professional development of the Director. The Director of Development will be responsible for all administration costs related to the position - supply and upkeep of adequate business machines and software, including telecommunications.

The contract has been developed as a half-time equivalent position. It is anticipated that the hours will be flexible and that the Director of Development will set their own hours to reflect the activity for which they are responsible. The Director will be expected to attend productions and other public activity of the Society and to be the on-site manager of special events.

The successful proponent:

1. Will have at least 5 years experience with, and a working knowledge of, sponsorship, individual donors and the development/management of donor cultivation events.

2. Will be personable, able to present well, have the ability to network and be comfortable speaking in public.

3. Have experience managing event and project budgets.

4. Demonstrate a continued interest in developments related to the dynamic industry of fundraising and will network with other development professionals, attend seminars and continue to hone their fundraising skills.

5. Meet or exceed realistic targets developed in consultation with the Executive Producer.
