Victoria , BC : The Victoria Dance Series (VDS) is kicking off their 9th annual season of dance presentation and community engagement with a free late night party at the Victoria Fringe. The band has been hired, the beer is on ice, so why not join us for a great evening of dance and celebration?
“We’re pretty excited about having Adonis Puente join a great Cuban/Celtic band. There’s no question this will be a party people remember for a long time!” says Producer Stephen White.
The VDS continues to grow in popularity. Last year almost 15,000 people purchased tickets for the company’s presentations at the Royal and McPherson Theatres. This season with the National Ballet, and Ballets Jazz de Montreal returning to the Series, the VDS is expecting to break another record in overall attendance.
The VDS is also embarking on an ambitious two year project that will culminate in a large scale, site-specific dance presentation in Victoria’s Inner Harbour during the summer of 2007. This production will be developed with the help of 200 members of the community and in order to accomplish it all, the VDS is launching a series of dance jams like the one scheduled at the Fringe, later this season. “Our intention is to get the city moving and to encourage all the dance genres from ballroom to First Nations to exchange dances in a dynamic and exciting way.”
